She and her team work one-on-one with career changers and experienced CS professionals on everything from resumés to networking, all the way to interviewing and negotiating offers.

Are you questioning if your company is going to make it through turbulent times and there are red flags a layoff is coming? Are you thinking of what to do because your role has recently been eliminated and you are looking for what is next in your career? Listen to our podcast chat below for some juicy tips on what to do next after you have been laid off and how to land your dream job in CS.

In our discussion, Carly helps answer some of the tricky questions when it comes to getting Laid off in CS and landing your next role:

  • Unfortunately, the current world economics makes CS a bit tricky, with the highs, there have been lows. What are your thoughts about what is happening in the tech/CS world right now with the mass layoffs?
  • What was one of the first things you should do when you know your role will be eliminated?
  • Which skills in CS were important to highlight in your interviews?

Some key takeaways from this discussion:

  • The very first thing you should do, and this is also a really good step to take if you’re even slightly worried about a layoff, is to collect as much data as you possibly can. For example, you should be trying to gather any data that will allow you to calculate your performance against KPIs. Secondly, I would spend a little bit of time in Slack and in your email and look for tough situations that you were in with clients and how you remediated those situations. That’s gonna be very helpful when you sit down to prep for an interview or to update your resume
  • That’s not the reality that we are in right now. Job seeking right now requires something different from you
  • Use a video resume or cover letter to apply for roles, you need to stand out from the crowd and will make you more personable to hiring managers.

Make sure you listen to the full episode and let me know your thoughts in the comments!
